Who We Are
The Fiji Rotuman Association originated 45 years ago with the humble beginnings of informal meetings of a group of Rotumans who would meet regularly to catch up with kainagas and update them of their genealogy and other important matters. It was a way to be reminded and embrace the Rotuman culture, its identity and heritage through sharing and nurturing.
The organisation has transitioned over the years from an informal structure to now a registered non-profit organisation under the Charitable Trust Act.

History
Originally known as the “Suva Seven Districts Association,” the Fiji Rotuman Association (FRA) was established 45 years ago by Rotuman Elders. In 1996, it underwent a name change to reflect its inclusivity of all Rotumans in Fiji, and it was officially registered as a non-profit organization. Subsequent registrations followed in 2005 and 2022. The primary objective of the FRA is to safeguard the interests and welfare of Rotuman people residing outside of Rotuma. With a membership exceeding 3,000 individuals, it operates under the mandate of the Council of Rotuma and the Rotuman people. Governed by its constitution, by-laws, and annually audited financial reports, the FRA remains dedicated to serving the Rotuman community.
